Session Type: Symposium
The field of educational psychology has much to offer teacher education programs. By raising awareness and revitalizing practices, this symposium provides an in-depth examination of approaches to teach educational psychology in teacher preparation programs guided by four questions: 1) How does literature on developmental theory help educators understand the complexity of educational environments and the diverse characteristics of students? 2) How can using case study strategies support pre-service teachers’ engagement in developmentally responsive practice? 3) How does teacher inquiry support the intentional and systematic integration of educational psychology into teacher preparation curriculum? 4) How can human developmental theory and research be intentionally integrated into teacher education for pre-service and in-service teachers? Last, we discuss future directions for research and practice.
