STEM education research may be hampered by the quality of measures used to assess important constructs in understanding student engagement in STEM-related learning. Whether measuring knowledge development, STEM identity, or other STEM-related constructs, the construct validity argument and interpretation of the measurements are essential to research validity. In this session, presenters will share their work highlighting the ways that the methodologies advance STEM education research especially in addressing the important considerations of diversity and equity. Methodologies include construct operationalization, differential item functioning (DIF), measurement invariance, and explorations of construct via response processes.
