Cultivating Transdisciplinary Educational Research Through Dialogic Reflexivity: Facets of Theory and Practice

Abstract

Transdisciplinary research aims to be consequential by transcending disciplinary boundaries allowing for innovative, problem-driven inquiry. As transdisciplinary collaboration entails methodological challenges, there is a need for approaches and designed spaces to navigate these potential pitfalls. This symposium introduces and explores the theory, design, and experience of a workshop meant to act as a space for the cultivation of transdisciplinary collaboration. The first presentation introduces key considerations of transdisciplinary research, the theoretical frameworks of dialogic reflexivity and rhizomatics, and the activities of the workshop. In the following three presentations, early career qualitative scholars offer theoretically informed perspectives based on their participation in the second iteration of this workshop. They consider their experience from the respective frames of productivity, vulnerability, and spacetimemattering.
