Abstract
“The Blind Men and the Elephant,” a folktale from India highlights the ontological crisis addressed in this symposium. What if the six blind men had been given the opportunity to work collaboratively in describing the elephant? This symposium brings together teachers from an urban public school, undergraduate and PhD students, community organization members, and university faculty serving on two separate research teams. Both research projects center polyvocality and collaboration in the design and implementation of their research projects. This interactive symposium includes reflections and recommendations by individual presenters and a fishbowl discussion between the two teams and with the audience. This symposium advocates for making collaboration and polyvocality an expectation rather than an exception in educational research.
