This interactive panel is designed to be a forum for discussing what is understood about leveling the playing field for learning and engagement—creating more equitable educational systems by using interest and/or value to focus instructional practices on cognitive engagement. Panelists plan to review recent studies from research programs that have been addressing the triggering and maintaining of interest and/or value-based relevance interventions. Discussion will consider synergies among the reported findings and their implications for promoting interest development and/or value. The panel format is designed to promote creative thinking and full engagement of both the panelists and the audience. The moderator will facilitate discussion of questions raised by the panelists and the audience.
