Pursuing Truths and Enacting Change: Educational Research in Chosen Spaces

Abstract

The session draws together research conducted with artists, youth, organizers, and educators in chosen spaces. Chosen spaces refer to community-led or designed places of learning, critical analysis, and action. The presentations describe a variety of research methods, including participatory action research, document analysis, photo elicitation, mapping, interviews, and focus groups. The primary goal of the session is to draw attention to forms of knowledge and practice fostered through chosen learning spaces. Each presenter outlines research that asks participants to reflect on their experiences in chosen spaces.
