Session Type: Working Group Roundtable
Educational technology and its utility as a lens into learners’ thoughts, attitudes, and behavior has exploded as the COVID-19 pandemic forced parents, teachers, and researchers alike to turn to digital tools to support education from a distance. While such advances in digital educational media and educational technology promise benefits to educational practices such as automated, individualized instruction, the protection of the digital artifacts created by these advancements (e.g., a student’s digital fingerprint) needs to be considered as learners’ digital presence continues to grow. Bringing together leaders in children’s online privacy, this working group will discuss strategies applicable to different research and educational contexts to ensure the benefits of the data being collected outweigh the risks to individuals’ privacy.
