Using Innovative Methodological Approaches to Explore the Heterogeneity of Latinx Dual Language Learners Within Early Childhood Classrooms

Abstract
In this session presenters will discuss their research exploring the heterogeneity of developmental competencies among Latinx DLLs in early childhood programs through various methodological approaches which consider the bilingual child’s full language repertoire. This work is centered on Garcia’s theory of translanguaging, Velez-Agosto’s cultural ecological model, and Garcia Coll’s integrative model. A pedagogical approach to the use of innovative methodology to explore quantitative data for bilingual learners will also be discussed and showcased. The discussant will highlight key ideas from across the presentations and emphasize the implications of this work for research, policy, and practice.
