Session Type: Symposium
Throughout her career, Guadalupe Valdés has explored how notions about the language and literacy practices of marginalized multilingual populations, and resulting educational opportunities, operate within complex and interacting ecological systems that promote or impede equity for Latina/o/x and other multilingual learners. On the occasion of her retirement, this special symposium convenes scholars for an important moment of reflection upon the ways that Dr. Valdés’ pursuit of these truths continues to inform our understanding of and work with multilingual children, families, and communities. Authors draw on multiple aspects of her enduring scholarship, presenting empirical and conceptual papers that highlight Professor Valdés’ contributions and demonstrate how scholars continue to draw upon and extend her ideas.
