Abstract

Over the past decade, improvement science (IS) has spread at a fast clip across the field of education. As part of this spread, faculty in educational leadership programs increasingly turning to IS as a signature pedagogy, a methodology for dissertations in practice, and an approach for leading educational change. However, the rapid spread can mask the fact that IS offers a radical departure from existing approaches to leadership, research, and graduate preparation. This presents both exciting opportunities and complex challenges for faculty in leadership programs. In this symposium, leadership faculty will present on the opportunities and challenges of integrating IS into leadership programs, and examine ways of adapting, extending, or supplementing IS methods to address these challenges and limitations.
