Session Type: Symposium
This session involves scholars whose work examines how critical theories of race can be implemented across teacher education. We present research that: 1) Explores resources teacher educators rely on to advance racial equity orientations with preservice teachers; 2) Problematizes disposition assessment tools at a predominantly white institution; 3) Examines how teacher educators of Color engage a critical race teacher education; and 4); Interrogates a year-long effort to advance racial literacy in a college of education. We present research that illuminates the potential of racial justice as an imperative for understanding the sociopolitical foundations in teacher education. Collectively, we offer insights for teacher education programs on ways the field can better serve all future teachers, especially teachers of Color.
