Session Type: Symposium
The emerging landscape of platform-based edtech impacts the everyday work of teaching and what this means for teacher education. Over the last decade, multipurpose platform providers like Google and Microsoft have become vital infrastructures in schools, shaping teachers’ relations to students, content, and class-time and generating data that is incorporated into professional learning and district accountability systems. This session takes this “platformization” as a starting point for inquiry into the changing conditions of classroom labor and the implications for teacher education. Bringing together scholars whose work cuts across discursive positionalities, subfields, methods, and research contexts, this symposium explores the relationship between technology and teacher labor through a range of empirical and theoretical projects.
