Session Type: Symposium
The evaluation and education literatures document the urgency of transforming racist and inequitable structures and practices to promote just and equitable communities. Yet, educational evaluators find limited empirical research to guide their efforts to advance racial equity and justice. This symposium will present findings from and explore connections across three research studies with evaluators who conduct equity-and-justice-focused evaluations of programs and initiatives with BIPOC communities. Presenters will examine racial equity conceptualizations in evaluation, how evaluators navigate differing stakeholder perspectives on racial equity, and the criteria-guided lines of inquiry evaluators pursue. Presenters will also explore evaluators’ advice for centering racial equity in evaluation practice and invite discussion about future directions for research on evaluation and evaluation practice that work toward justice.
