Session Type: Symposium
As a result of the global COVID 19 pandemic, schools are contending with profound changes in their day-to-day practices, including suspension of classroom teaching, transformations in learning and teaching modalities, and the provision of health and social services to students and their families. Even as school systems struggle to navigate these shifts and changes, the implications for how we understand schools as organizations has remained under-examined. In this symposium, paper authors will briefly present new conceptualizations of educational organizations that better capture this complexity and change. Discussants will then facilitate an interactive discussion with participants about how we might leverage organizational theory to better understand today's schools and prepare current and future school and district leaders.
