Session Summary

COVID-19 and Mexican Elementary Education: Analysis, Alternatives, and Lessons Learned From the Pandemic

Thu, April 13, 2:50 to 4:20pm CDT (2:50 to 4:20pm CDT), Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel, Chicago, Floor: 2nd Floor, Baltic

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

This symposium aims to show a broad framework on Mexican elementary education during the pandemic to provide reflections and alternatives for Mexican education and countries with similar contexts in Latin America. Specifically, the symposium has been structured through a deductive approach. Three research projects show an overview of what happened in Mexican elementary education. From a quantitative perspective, the projects designed and validated a questionnaire exploring pedagogical, socioemotional, and technological variables and standardized tests to assess math and Spanish. The second part of the symposium presents three pieces of research from qualitative perspectives: a multiple case study to discuss dropout in Mexican students, research about experiences through mosaic analysis, and finally, an alternative for virtual education using a STEAM approach.
