Sat, April 15, 8:00 to 9:30am CDT (8:00 to 9:30am CDT), SwissĂ´tel Chicago, Floor: Event Centre, 1st Floor, St. Gallen 2

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

This session is a conversation between Black and Indigenous graduate students and scholars in the United States and Canada about doing research for Black and/or Indigenous communities and futures. Through our work in various fields, we share our experience working on research that articulates knowledge, resistances, desires, and possibilities of our communities to reclaim and to build what our communities want for themselves (Harjo, 2019). Rather than examining the future of research, we highlight our collective work as a way to enact futurity as a research practice (Harjo, 2019). Each paper will share the ways in which Black and Indigenous research is used to construct a set of tools to build and organize communities and futures.
