Engaging Praxis: Curriculum Studies in Classrooms and Communities

Abstract

One of the foci of this conference is to “position . . . [research] as a necessary site in deliberations and practices.” In this spirit, we propose a symposium featuring the reflections of practitioners who enact curriculum theorizing in the classroom. Each panelists will address how an influential curriculum studies scholar (Maxine Greene, William Watkins, William Pinar, Janet Miller, Gloria Ladson-Billings, or William Schubert) has impacted their practice. We continue the tradition of teacher lore, a form of inquiry focused on sharing what teachers have learned through their experiences (see Schubert, 1992, p. 239). Through this work, we hope to invite other teachers and researchers to reflect upon their engagement with curriculum theory and their moments of praxis.
