Analyzing the Relationship Between School-Based Health Centers and Schools

Abstract
In this panel, we focus on a particularly promising form of school-community partnership: School based health centers (SBHCs). SBHCs are small healthcare facilities that operate inside (or nearby) school buildings and are a partnership between schools and school districts and community health providers. Our panel brings together four papers that focus on different aspects of SBHCs including student mental health, reproductive health, leadership and organizational structure, and effects on student outcomes including attendance and vaccination rates. The COVID pandemic brought attention to the intersection of health and educational policy as schools have been at the center of many public health initiatives. The goal is to provide an in-depth understanding of the complexity and impact of SBHCs in one state.
