Sun, April 16, 8:00 to 9:30am CDT (8:00 to 9:30am CDT), SwissĂ´tel Chicago, Floor: Event Centre, 1st Floor, Zurich F

Session Type: Working Group Roundtable

Abstract

Holistic education is a topic that is being discussed to extend the scope of education. One questions though who these programs benefit and how educators are reaching the most minoritized students.

Several inequalities persist in our society as a result of the transatlantic slave trade, colonialism, coloniality, and other knowledge hierarchies. Social justice movements continue to draw attention to these injustices and minoritized groups all across the world. Holistic education can address inequalities in our society through engaging local communities, leveraging indigenous knowledge, drawing on contemplative inquiry, and theoretical frameworks like Critical Race Theory.

This round table discusses community partnerships, Universal Design for Learning, and holistic research methods to understand how programs work with the most minoritized students.
