Sat, April 15, 9:50 to 11:20am CDT (9:50 to 11:20am CDT), SwissĂ´tel Chicago, Floor: Event Centre, 1st Floor, Montreux 2

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

Professional development can support teachers learning new forms of knowledge, dispositions, and practices to create more student-centered, equitable and just classrooms. However, little is known about the mechanisms of teacher learning that are transformative for teacher practice. Current theoretical frameworks for studying teacher learning often limit how we conceptualize and study the impact of teacher participation in professional development on classroom practice. In this symposium, we bring scholars together who are concerned with designing professional learning contexts that are transformative for teaching practice. We bring together scholars from different research traditions to interrogate how we understand mechanisms of teacher learning. In doing so, we expand how research conceptualizes and theorizes teacher learning that is generative to transform instructional practice.
