Abstract

Just over two decades ago, Daniel Solorzano and Dolores Delgado Bernal published their 2001 article titled Examining Transformational Resistance Through a Critical Race and LatCrit Theory Framework: Chicana and Chicano Students in an Urban Context, in the journal of Urban Education. Since then, educators have engaged this framework in innovative ways, so much so that in 2022, Urban Education released a special issue featuring the work of scholar-educators who have revisited, complicated, and expanded transformational resistance, alongside other works on youth resistance (Tuck & Yang, 2011; Morris, 2015) to (re)examine and (re)conceptualize student behaviors. This symposium features these scholar-educators from the 2022 special issue and draws upon their empirical research to highlight the theoretical and pedagogical implications of nurturing student resistance.
