Session Type: Virtual Symposium
The COVID-19 pandemic has magnified the already existing stress issues in educational systems in China. This national stress level has impacted the mental health of adolescents. Lack of motivation, school dropout, tension between parents and adolescents, digital game addiction, stress, anxiety, depression, self-cutting, suicides have all been reported. While we believe current adolescents mental health issues are largely caused by the social factors, this symposium seeks to explore ways of improving the youth psychological well-being through an individualized, psychological, relational, and multi-faceted approach. Five presenters from four different countries (China, U.S. Canada, and UK) will share their experiences of investigating different factors including attitudes, values, identity, motivation, student-teacher relationship, parenting styles, and gamification behavior to improve youth well-being.
