Session Type: Symposium
Migration is a global phenomenon with millions of people leaving their home country or region to pursue a “better life” elsewhere. In China, without household registration in the receiving localities, rural-to-urban migrant children olack access to local educational resources and health care services. Externally, Chinese immigrant parents in the US. are often “invisible” in school. The proposed symposium aims to bring together four paper presentations on different aspects of adjustment among Chinese migrant families with internal migration experience and Chinese immigrant families with international migration experience. By investigating the contextual factors at the individual, family, school, community, and societal levels, the symposium contributes to a holistic understanding of the complexity that (im)migration has brought to Chinese migrant and immigrant families.
