Climate Child Imaginaries: Crafting More-Than-Human Research Playspaces With Children and Young People

Abstract

This workshop presents a series of innovative methods for working collaboratively with children and young people as researchers within diverse environmental education contexts. Drawing on insights gleaned from the XXXX program of research (2014-ongoing), the authors introduce the ‘climate child imaginary’ as a theoretical framework for grasping the shifting relations between childhood and climate change in the Anthropocene. The workshop then shares specific approaches and techniques for crafting more-than-human ‘research playspaces’. Through a mixture of open discussion prompts and hands-on activities, the workshop introduces participants to a series of empirically tested methods at the nexus of climate change education, childhood studies, the environmental posthumanities, and the creative affordances of play.
