Social and Emotional Learning in Teacher Education Programs

Abstract

This symposium highlights various approaches to integrating Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) into teacher education as well as data exploring the impact of this programming on educators who participate in it. Together the papers in this symposium offer both depth and breadth in their exploration of the ever-expanding landscape of SEL in teacher education. Included is an overview of different types of programs at universities as well as two case studies that reveal the impacts of different approaches on participants. This symposium expands the research in the field that explores best-practices in SEL education for teachers and brings to light the experience of educators who are developing their skills in SEL implementation at different points in their teaching careers.
