Session Type: Symposium
This proposed session grows out of a series of meetings, gatherings, and conversations that have occurred over the past two years among queer scholars studying K-12 and higher education. Our purpose was to think about tensions, possibilities, and futures in queer studies. We sought to engage the tensions between K-12 and higher education scholarship, the need for sustained and intentional focus on anti-Black racism, coloniality, and whiteness in queer studies, and the urgent need to address rising oppression of queer and trans people. What emerged were a series of partnerships between K-12 and higher education scholars. In this session, we present five papers and invite engagement from attendees around the tensions and possibilities in queer and trans studies in education.
