Session Type: Symposium
Education research is often underrepresented and decontextualized in policy conversations. This problem has long plagued the nation’s overarching education legislation, the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. This session draws together a broad and diverse group of scholars committed to setting forth a comprehensive, equity-focused, and humane set of research-based policy recommendations to outline the future of measurement and accountability. Drawing on an innovative format designed to foster rich conversation, this session is anchored around six opinion essays that address eight overarching themes from the relevant literature. The session will contribute to an ongoing project to advance an approach to measurement and accountability that is more democratic, more humane, and better suited to the goal of school improvement.
