Five Perspectives on Leveraging Systemic Social and Emotional Learning to Create Equity in Schools

Abstract
Many efforts to implement social and emotional learning (SEL) fail because districts do not create conditions conducive to implementation. In this symposium, we discuss Systemic SEL, defined as the alignment among policies, actions, and resources among states, communities, and schools that enhance the capacity to use evidence-based SEL. The five papers are based on book chapters in a forthcoming book in which SEL researchers and district partners describe how they worked together to leverage systemic SEL toward school equity goals. We expect the symposium will be of interest to a broad range of SEL stakeholders including those developing policies, implementing practices, developing theory, and conducting research and evaluation.
