Developing Collective Leadership in Teach For All: Examples of Peru, Nigeria, Mexico, and the United States

Abstract

The Teach For All Global Network comprises a global organization and local independently-operated organizations in 60 countries. Each network partner cultivates collective leadership by recruiting outstanding graduates and professionals into teaching fellowships. During the fellowship participants get trained and commit to teach in (primary and secondary) schools in underserved communities for at least two years. This session brings together research from four studies in four different countries within the Teach For All network to answer the following questions: a) are participants having an impact on student academic outcomes?; b) are participants having an impact on student social and emotional skills?; c) does the fellowship shift career paths and mindsets of participants?; d) does the fellowship impact participants’ civic engagement?
