Abstract

Open education offers opportunities for accessing, creating, and sharing materials because affordances of the internet and licensing. Open education includes both resources (known as Open Educational Resources; OER) that are freely available and can be retained (such as open textbooks) and open pedagogy in which students improve or create resources that may be valuable for use beyond the course (renewable assignments).
In this session, we will present six studies on topics of importance in open education such as student learning from and perceptions of renewable assignments, motivation for using OER, and using open resources to personalize education. The discussant will moderate audience inquiries on how to incorporate open education for online teaching and learning.
