Abstract

Teaching about mixed methods research (MMR) has become complex and specialized due to multiple contextual and disciplinary influences, instructors’ epistemological practices, and MMR methodological developments. To address varied learners’ needs, professors of educational research are faced with the challenge to diversify and adapt pedagogical approaches to different learning environments and teaching formats. The session discusses pedagogical approaches to teaching about MMR in different contexts guided by a socio-ecological perspective adapted for MMR field. Four presentations by educational researchers with successful history of teaching MMR discuss pedagogical approaches aimed to serve various learners’ needs in MMR ranging from a multiple-course sequence curriculum to a graduate certificate program, to an online course during the COVID pandemic, and to a specific teaching strategy.
