Session Type: Symposium
This session presents four studies examining the historical precedents and contemporary experiences of race-based disciplinary practices in U.S. early childhood education (ECE). Grounded on multiple data sources and rigorous literature analysis, the papers highlight the counter-narratives from preschool students and teachers of color not only to reveal their oppressed experiences in racialized educational institutions but also to provide examples of their critical reflection and transformative actions in decriminalizing and humanizing ECE.
