Abstract

Studies of justice in informal STEM learning (ISL) have gained attention across scales of pedagogies, program design, and organizational capacity. However, there remains little shared understanding around what a justice agenda could or should look like, or what it might mean to build capacity for it. Centering a justice agenda can be advanced through collaborative efforts and collective dialogue across institutions, communities, and regions. In collaborative learning from the efforts of different institutions, we seek to strategize together towards a more consequential transformation towards justice-oriented ISL. Accordingly, in this symposium, we share emerging insights from cross-field dialogue on ideas and tensions related to the overarching idea of what is required to build institutional capacity to advance justice-oriented ISL work.
