Co-Constructing Truth(s) With Latinx Research Collaborators Through the Chicana/Latina Feminist Methodology of Pláticas

Abstract

This symposium provides an in-depth examination of the co-construction of truth and knowledge that occurs in educational research when using Chicana/Latina feminist pláticas methodology. The symposium will focus on the second principle of pláticas methodology, which is the relational principle that honors participants as co-constructors of knowledge. Five presenters will demonstrate how they uniquely applied this principle to position their research participants as contributors and co-constructors of the meaning-making process in educational research. Co-constructors in this session consist of rural Latinx high school students, Latina undergraduate students, Latinx STEM undergraduate students, and Latina mothers, revealing various truths about the multifaceted Latinx community. Collectively, the presenters address the following research question: How is truth in educational research advanced through pláticas methodology?
