Abstract

This session, offering first an overview of the ways that the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated gender inequities for higher education academics who also identify as mothers, features five papers by academic mothers. These papers offer diverse and intersectional considerations of how academia affected mothering, and mothering affected academia, including considerations of racism, cisheteronormativity, institutional abuse and neglect, while featuring academic mothers who are tenured, tenure-track, adjunct, and doctoral students. This session works to simultaneously critique and reimagine higher education, as authors use a range of methodologies to consider how academia might better support gender equity, mothering, and mothers.
