Session Summary

Environmental Education and the Eco-Fascism Problem

Fri, April 14, 11:40am to 1:10pm CDT (11:40am to 1:10pm CDT), Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk, Floor: Level 2, Arkansas

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

This session examines the interplay between environmental education and the rise (again) of ecofascism and other forms of far right ecological ideologies. Scholars in our session will show how unexamined assumptions in environmental education inadvertently facilitate ecofascist ideologies, how such concepts and practices are contested, and bring forth considerations for alternative environmental education research, theory, and practice. We seek to push the field’s understanding of how it contributes to, and resists, emerging forms of far right ecologism in the face of ongoing ecological, climatological, and democratic breakdown.
