Cancel Wars: An Author-Meets-Critics Book Symposium

Abstract

Postsecondary education’s role in inclusive knowledge production has become an increasingly urgent topic in philosophy, especially in a context of democratic erosion and misinformation. This session aims to bring together philosophers of higher education to discuss the role of speech and truth-seeking on postsecondary campuses. This symposium is structured around Ben-Porath’s recent book, Cancel Wars: How Universities can Foster Free Speech, Promote Inclusion, and Renew Democracy. Three scholars will offer responses to distinct elements of the work and its implications or limitations for institutions moving forward.
