Philosophical Inquiry as Consequential Research: Interrogating the Means and Ends of Ethics and Education

Abstract

Given the difficult, post-truth political context of schooling in the United States at all levels—philosophical inquiry as a means to consequential educational research is essential to combat dangerous campaigns of disinformation and bad faith. With this spirit of ethical inquiry in mind, the main objective of this symposium (part of a larger project on ethics and education) is to (re)chart the terrain of ethics and education for a new generation of educators as it relates to questions of philosophical means and ends. This panel will provide an interdisciplinary opportunity to take up questions of theory and practice to interrogate this year’s AERA theme: “consequential education research in pursuit of truth.”
