Session Summary

Reengaging (With) Care in Equity-Based STEM Research

Sun, April 16, 4:40 to 6:10pm CDT (4:40 to 6:10pm CDT), InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile, Floor: 3rd Floor, King Arthur Court

Session Type: Structured Poster Session

Abstract

This structured poster session highlights how researchers/practitioners tacitly engage (with) care in STEM educational research. Care is an assembling force propelling this session, as presenters remain attuned and responsive to knowledges, communities, and (more-than-human) participants whose bodies, lives and affects have been historically marginalized in mainstream science education and research. Gathering 12 posters grounded in the sociopolitical dimensions of STEM across formal, informal and online learning contexts, the session will advance new approaches that make the work of care in STEM research and education more visible and accountable to the: 1) privileged position of the researcher and 2) rich and diverse ways that youth, communities and teacher candidates learn, engage and wonder about science and the world around them.
