Conducting humanizing research during an era of racial reckoning has become increasingly integral for scholars committed to pushing forth a praxis that enacts a “real bearing on disrupting ableism, racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia, and other forms of discrimination” within education. In the spirit of collaboration and thought sharing, this panel highlights four distinct projects which employ transformative qualitative methodologies rooted in Critical Race traditions. Specifically, papers leverage methodologies such as platicas, oral histories, epistolary and creative writing methodologies. These innovative methodologies lead us to engage a research praxis that (1) intentionally centers Community of Color experiences of educational exclusion and resistance, (2) challenges deficit narratives that uphold majoritarian perspectives, and (3) honors the pursuit of truth telling.
