Session Type: Symposium
The 2023 Annual Meeting’s focus on the pursuit of truth immediately begs the question, “Whose truth?” Or, “truth on what terms?” In response to those questions, this session will explore what becomes possible when Black queer worldmaking—an epistemology historically excluded from the academy—is centered as a form of truth-telling in educational research. Situated against intersecting injustices, Black queer worldmaking draws upon strategies and sensibilities across time and space to excavate Black queer histories, navigate the anti-Black and anti-queer present, and move toward futures of Black queer thriving (Darling-Hammond, 2019). The papers in this session will consider what counts as truth in educational scholarship when Black queer worldmaking is taken seriously.
