Session Summary

Promoting Diversity Through Pathways in the Preparation of Educational Researchers: Intersectionality of Thought and Action

Fri, May 5, 2:30 to 4:00pm CDT (2:30 to 4:00pm CDT), Division J Virtual Sessions, Division J - Postsecondary Education Virtual Session Room

Session Type: Virtual Symposium

Abstract

This session responds to AERA’s 2023 call to contribute in “advancing quality consequential research” and increasing greater diversity in educational research by learning from six different Pathways Training Program grants at several minority-serving institutions (MSIs) devoted to the preparation of a new generation of scholars from groups underrepresented in doctoral study. A total of six Pathways Training Program grants have been awarded by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) to MSIs since 2016. This symposium brings together principal investigators and fellows from the first cohort of the Pathways program. The symposium will focus on the evaluation research associated with each funded program, including vignettes of fellows’ pathways currently enrolled in doctoral programs.
