Vice-Presidential Session. Co-Designing Educational Justice in Chicago and Evanston: Examining Learning and Change-Making Across Time and Place

Abstract
As the field takes up efforts to co-design justice-oriented learning environments, it is imperative to better understand processes of partnering that support collective learning across researchers, educators, families, youth, and communities. Amplifying community-defined agendas of consequence, this symposium brings together three Chicago and Evanston, IL based projects that elucidate the role long-term, community-based research can play in advancing a culturally and ethically grounded science of human learning. The papers span analysis across scales from micro-interaction to longitudinal data of curriculum and project development. Presenting with local community partners, we offer insights into co-design processes and pedagogies that address the political structures of research and communities, relations with place and more-than-human life, and embedded issues of race, equity, historicity, and power.
