Abstract

Schools can be isolating and uncaring places for non-dominant youth. Thus, in this session we explore how to teach care as central to research praxis in qualitative research courses for emerging scholars. Care-based research is both a method and stance that argues we should treat youth--not just their stories--with care. We will begin this session by articulating our conceptualization of care-based research methodologies and its key tenets, then offer examples of how each tenet has been practiced in the field, and, finally, consider the teaching and learning strategies that can be used to support students and scholars in adopting a care-based approach.
