Session Type: Symposium
The proposed session includes four paper presentations from federally-funded studies examining the facilitators and barriers to secondary pathways and outcomes for English learners (ELs). The studies included in the proposal draw from a range of methods and data sources, including large-scale longitudinal data on course taking patterns, practices, and student outcomes in New York, Texas, and Oregon; survey data from a national sample of educators; and parent and teacher interview data. The findings point to the complex and multifaceted nature of secondary school pathways, suggesting that course access for ELs is impacted by a variety of factors that can inhibit the outcomes and opportunities that are ultimately afforded to ELs in their schooling.
