Session Type: Symposium
Over 450 million active users engage in Twitter conversations by retweeting, quote tweeting, and replying to each other. This vast world of conversation can shed light on how groups engage in conversations about their schools. This symposium will introduce newly created social network analysis (SNA) tools designed to scrape and analyze Twitter data. We will share how to tap into these networks and present two empirical examples that use these tools, focusing on school board recall campaigns in Loudoun County Public Schools and San Francisco Unified School District. These tools enable new examinations of Twitter conversations by tracking changes in sentiment, changes in the network composition over time, language used, and examining other aspects of the network.
