Session Type: Symposium
One of the most persistent issues facing the education profession is the recruitment and retention of high-quality teachers in high-needs schools – especially teachers of color. There has been a clarion call to improve the quality and relevance of teacher preparation to ensure the readiness of beginning teachers, as rigorous clinical preparation is associated with increased teacher retention (Guha, et al., 2016). This symposium will address Latinx teacher recruitment and retention by highlighting a region-wide collective impact effort focused on strengthening the teacher pipeline. Participants from one HSI-based teacher preparation program and three school districts will present on a regional Teacher Pipeline Community of Practice and the impact of a co-designed residency model on Latinx teacher preparation and readiness.
