You're Invited: Black Women Educators (Re)Membering Ghana and the Complex Realities of Building Community

Abstract

Akwaaba, Twi for you are invited, is a Ghanian term used to welcome a friend or loved one to share whatever you may have. This symposium welcomes the audience to engage in a discussion around how 14 Black women educators journeyed to Ghana on a Fulbright Hays in July of 2022. We will discuss our experience with community building in an all virtual setting due to the COVID-19 pandemic and challenges and triumphs faced in moving from a strictly online space to the in person portion of our experience in Ghana. We invite the community to trouble the idea of (re)membering (Dillard, 2012, 2021) in the U.S. and the African continent. Akwaaba
