Asserting Sovereignty and Self-Determination Through a Tribally Based Doctoral Cohort

Abstract

During this session, we will share how a tribal and university partnership has created a Indigenous doctoral cohort that is situated on tribal lands and centers tribal and Indigenous community knowledge and experiences. There will be a storying of Indigenous doctoral research that nuances settler states to center tribal perspectives and realities from across the landscapes of justice in education, witnessing Indigenous knowledge sharing, decolonizing data, and blood quantum. We will also share our creation story and how this tribally centered cohort has reclaimed Indigenous knowledge rooted in this doctoral education journey. We will engage in sharing out and conversations on how to build reciprocal partnerships and relationships between tribal communities and universities.
