Abstract

The Fostering and Maximizing Interdisciplinary Learning Year-round (F.a.M.I.L.Y) project is an innovative approach to positively influence the STEM learning experiences of Black girls and their caregivers. The F.a.M.I.L.Y project provides Black girls with opportunities to learn about STEM-related concepts and careers by participating in a multigenerational, holistic STEM learning counterspace that gives them and their caregivers opportunities to complete life-enriching, socially transformative, multidisciplinary STEM experiences. This symposium brings together different F.a.M.I.L.Y members (researcher, staff member, caregivers, and Black Girl scholars) to discuss the impact of the F.a.M.I.L.Y project on one’s enjoyment of STEM, interest in STEM content and careers, understanding of STEM as a tool for personal and social change, and overall wellness and well-being.
